Ex-Guard LT Generation 3 - Pre-Trip Maintenance and Inspection Guide
Before Each Trip
IMPORTANT: THE GUARD MUST BE SECURELY LATCHED BEFORE USING.
Failure to maintain and/or latch your Ex-Guard securely can result in damage, injury and even death. If any of the items below exist in your pre-trip inspection, repair immediately before using the vehicle or the guard:
STEP 1: Keep Latch and Hook Clean
Check Latch for Debris: The latch must be clean and free of ice, snow or road grime to be securely fastened.
STEP 2: Check Latch Hook for Wear
Periodically check for wear. Replace if needed.
If not rotating freely, applying a lubrication spray on these pivot locations can free the movement and prevent ice build-up.

STEP 3: Check Subassembly/Hook Position
Check Latch Position: When closing the Ex-Guard to the vertical position. Take notice of the latch position, if you cannot push the latch down until it is fully locked, look at the alignment shown below – ex-guard.com/maintenance
STEP 3a: Check Latch Hook for Wear
Check Latch Hook for Wear: If the latch hook is damaged or worn, replace immediately.
If the hook is not securely latching and not worn out, but the hook is not centered on the catch, loosen the three nuts that attach the Ex-Guard to the mounting bracket and then shift the bracket as shown (may require mallet). Once latch hook is aligned with the latch handle and the hook is centered on the catch’s roller bearing, re-torque all three nuts to 150 FT/LBS.
STEP 4: Check for Handle Position
Check Handle Position: When closing the Ex-Guard to the vertical position. Take notice of the latch position – ex-guard.com/maintenance
